Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of My Hero's Journey ("the app"), developed by Morten Lyngeng. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms.

1. The service

My Hero's Journey is a creative reflection and storytelling tool built around Joseph Campbell's monomyth and Christopher Vogler's twelve-stage story structure. It lets you map your own life, or a story you're writing, onto this twelve-stage framework, and optionally generates AI-powered readings based on what you write.

2. Not therapy or medical advice

My Hero's Journey is a tool for creative reflection and self-understanding. It is not therapy, counseling, or any form of medical or mental health treatment, and nothing in the app — including AI-generated readings — should be treated as professional advice. If you're working through something difficult, please reach out to a qualified therapist, counselor, or doctor. If you are in crisis, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline in your area.

3. Age requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use this app. If you are between 13 and the age of legal majority in your country, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use it.

4. Your content

Everything you write in the app — your reflections, the figures you create, your journeys — belongs to you. We claim no ownership over it. By using the AI reading feature, you grant us a limited, temporary right to transmit that specific content to our backend service and to Anthropic's Claude API solely for the purpose of generating your requested reading. We do not use your content to train any AI model, and we do not repurpose it for any use beyond generating the reading you asked for.

5. AI-generated readings

The "Mythic Interpretation" and "Strengthening the Story" readings are generated by an AI language model based on the content you provide. They are creative and interpretive in nature — a perspective offered for reflection, not a factual, clinical, or authoritative assessment of you, your life, or your writing. AI-generated content can be inaccurate, generic, or simply not resonate, and you should treat it accordingly. We are not responsible for decisions you make based on an AI-generated reading.

6. Purchases

Some features, including additional AI readings beyond any free allotment, may be available as in-app purchases. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, and are subject to Apple's own terms, payment processing, and refund policies. We do not process payments ourselves and cannot issue refunds directly — refund requests should go through Apple's standard App Store refund process.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the app to submit content that is illegal, or to attempt to abuse, overload, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the app's backend services, including any rate limits put in place to keep the AI reading feature available and affordable for everyone.

8. No warranty

The app is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated content will meet any particular standard of accuracy or quality.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Morten Lyngeng shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including any reliance on AI-generated content. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited under applicable Norwegian or EU consumer protection law.

10. Termination

You may stop using the app and delete it at any time. We may discontinue or modify the app or any of its features, including the AI reading service, at our discretion — for example, if a third-party service we depend on changes or becomes unavailable.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms as the app evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights you may have under the laws of your own country of residence.
